The Impact of rubber offtake
in central kalimantan

As of May 2024, the rubber offtake program has successfully engaged 453 smallholder farmers, sourcing rubber from a total area of 1,128 hectares. The collection process is managed by 5 local collectors, of whom 4 are women, representing 80% female participation—a strong indication of gender inclusivity in the value chain. The initiative has facilitated the offtake of 188 tons of rubber, reflecting both the productive capacity of the farmers and the effectiveness of the program in building a reliable and equitable sourcing system.

Socioeconomic impact

The implementation of improved rubber offtake practices has led to significant positive outcomes for farmers in the area. By producing higher-quality rubber, farmers now receive a premium price, directly rewarding their efforts to enhance product standards. This has contributed to a notable increase in rubber offtake volume, as more farmers are motivated to participate under fairer conditions. One of the key improvements has been in payment methods, with farmers now receiving direct cash or bank transfers immediately after rubber delivery, ensuring timely and secure transactions. Additionally, the shift from falsified scales used by middlemen to transparent quality grading systems has restored trust and fairness in pricing. As a result of these combined improvements, farmers have experienced a 100% increase in their average monthly income, rising from EUR 40 to EUR 80, greatly strengthening household financial stability and rural economic resilience.

Environmental Impact

Our program has played a vital role in preserving 1,128 hectares of forested rubber-tapping areas, protecting them from potential conversion to palm oil plantations and gold mining sites. By maintaining these landscapes under rubber production, the initiative supports both local livelihoods and long-term ecological balance. To facilitate access for tapping without compromising environmental integrity, only minimal land clearing—limited to bush removal—has been practiced. Looking ahead, there is a clear commitment to sustainability, with plans to replant at least 20 hectares of rubber trees, ensuring the maintenance of carbon stocks, soil health, and continued productivity for future generations.

From improving Facilities to strengthening the Community

Our iinitiatives not only enhance local infrastructure and rubber offtake practices but also strengthen communities by fostering collaboration, economic resilience, and environmental stewardship. Our program has built strong partnerships with one cooperative and two forest farmer groups (KTH)—namely Koperasi Batu Tahasak Mahasur, KTH Batu Bulan, and KTH Miar Hayak—to strengthen community-based rubber offtake systems. A total of 69 engagement sessions have been conducted, involving 110 unique farmer participants, with many attending multiple sessions. These sessions focused on improving rubber quality, market access, and sustainable practices. Notably, 65 of the participants were women, representing 60% female participation, highlighting the program's commitment to gender inclusion and the active role of women in the rubber value chain.
